It's has been the best in home coffee grinders since 2001 when it was first introduced, and now it's been redesigned. It's hard to believe that they have improved on the original design, but the folks at Baratza have done it... these improvements include: an increased range of adjustments; an innovative calibration system; and a new powerful DC motor. Here is a list of features that set it apart from the rest: - German made, 40-mm conical burrs. The Maestro uses a combination of gear and electronic speed reducers to slow the spinning of the burr to 450 RPM. This slow speed reduces heat, noise, and static generation in the grinder. It also ensures that the beans feed smoothly into the burrs. - Innovative burr calibration system; the Maestro has 40 distinct settings of grind from espresso to french press. An innovative calibration system allows all the manufacturing tolerances of the grinder to be eliminated, resulting in identical, accurate performance of each grinder; furthermore the Maestro ring burr is supported on three points, providing a stable platform for a more accurate grind. Whether in commercial, semi-professional or personal applications, exact grind is imperative to a high-quality extraction and, therefore, a better cup of coffee. - Efficient motor; the Maestro houses a powerful 240 watt DC motor that produces more than twice the output of a standard AC motor found in most grinders in this class. The motor spins at less than one-third the speed, making it much quieter and lower in pitch. Extremely well-made, the motor is built to handle long-duty cycles. In addition, it possesses a thermal safety device that protects the motor from overheating and automatically resets once the motor cools. - Some other excellent design features of the Maestro are: A coffee chute that points downward into the 5 oz. coffee collection bin and not across like other designs. It has an 8 ounce coffee bean hopper that rotates easily for the 40 selectable grind settings from Turkish to French press. The burrs are easily removable for quick cleaning. It also has a uniquely designed on/off switch that can be activated clockwise or counter clockwise. It comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty. The Maestro weights 4 pounds.
